Joseph O. Bilodeau, born on 4 August 1874 in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, emigrated to East Barre, Vermont, in 1895. He married Helen LaRochelle, born on 9 October 1884 in Arthabaska, Quebec, on 9 July 1902 in Barre, Vermont. Around 1904 he founded J. O. Bilodeau (1903-1993) and his sister Rachel Bilodeau Greiner (1906-1991) were part of an extended family prominent in Barre's granite industry. They also had a sister, Gertrude (1906-1998). After the death of J. O. Bilodeau in 1926, Lucien took over the family granite company, while Rachel worked in the company office, becoming treasurer after the death of her mother in 1968.
