This collection contains 27 printed items about the carving of memorial monuments collected by Leo J. Blais (1931-1997), a memorial draftsman from Barre, Vermont. These publications were presumably used by Blais in his work as a draftsman in the granite industry in Barre, Vermont. Some of the items were published in Vermont, while others originate from national firms, and one is from Carrara, Italy. The collection includes publications from the following Vermont companies or organizations: Kenerson Design Studio, Barre, Vermont; Barre Granite Association; Elmo Peduzzi and Alfred J. Comi, Barre, Vermont, Ryegate Design Studios, South Ryegate, Vermont; and The Troup Studio, Barre, Vermont. Leo Joseph Blais was born in Barre, Vermont, on June 13, 1931, the son of Arthur Blais and Louise Stacy Blais. On September 13, 1952, he married Earlene Alice Shannon in Barre. He served as a major in the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam. The 1953 city directory for Barre lists him as a draftsman for Buttura and Sons. Leo J. Blais died on December 1, 1997 and is buried at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont.
